The Underlining basic principles of Person- Centered Therapy
Humanism: Is when an individual is able to grow and develop and realize their potential. Along with the individual having enough trust and confidence in themselves to make use of their inner resources.
Human potential and Actualization: This is when an Individual strives to master ongoing challenges.
Conditions of Worth: This is when a person is shaped by the people that are in their lives and the message that they receive from other people.
Organismic Valuing Process: is when a person knows what they need to do in order to feel fulfillments and self-actualized.
What makes a Fully Functioning Person?
Roger states that a fully function person has these characteristics
- Openness to experience
- Living with a sense of
meaning and purpose
- Trust and congruence in
self
- Unconditional positive
self-regard and regard to others
- Internal locus of
evaluation
- Being fully aware in the
moment
- Living creatively
Treatment for Person- Centered Theory
This type of treatment is a way of being with the client and providing a therapeutic congruence, empathy, and unconditional positive way that will show change. When these steps are shown actualizing, denial and distortions are now diminishing and the person becomes more of a fully functional person.
Congruence: This is the ability for a person to be genuine and authentic and aware of themselves and how people perceived them to be.
Unconditional Positive Regard: Is when a person is caring respecting, liking, and accepting people for who they are without the placement of any requirements on the person to feel, act, or think in a way to please their clinicians.
Empathy: This is when a person has temporarily living in the other life by moving about in delicately without making judgments
